Business Partner Development Initiative |
| |
The manufacturing industry is facing tremendous pressure to generate innovative and higher value-added products and solutions at the highest quality, |
| |
in the shortest time and at the lowest cost, in order to compete effectively and assure survival in today’s increasingly demanding market place. |
| |
The challenge now is for the industry to climb up the value ladder and retain their competitive edge by equipping themselves with world-class |
| |
competencies to effectively collaborate, aggregate and manage global best-in-class manufacturing services. |
| |
One clear source of competitive advantage for manufacturing companies is to build operational excellence through embracing Six Sigma, delivering |
| |
products and services with customer and employee satisfaction, speed and at lower cost. |
| |
Six Sigma is a disciplined, systematic problem-solving approach for reducing variation in manufacturing and service processes from that of continual |
| |
Detection and Correction to one of Prevention. Therein, it produces breakthrough performance in business efficiencies leading to increased customer |
| |
and employee satisfaction and reducing business costs. Overtime, multiple Six Sigma projects can produce virtually defect-free performance! |
| |
To drive improved business efficiency, coming under the umbrella of Supply Chain Management, KETS embarked on the Business Partner Development |
| |
Initiative, embracing Six Sigma coupled with Lean Manufacturing techniques, to create a Win-Win and Share-Win strategy by assisting our business |
| |
partners in uplifting their operational performance in the areas of Productivity, Efficiency and Quality, thereby increasing overall business efficiencies |
| |
and competencies and reducing business costs. |
| |
Thus far, the Business Partner Development Program has been launched successfully for our suppliers and subcontractor located in China and |
| |
Indonesia. |

| |
overwhelming and demonstrates the close partnering relationships we have had with our business partners. The activities include highlighting our |
| |
Kenwood's performance, direction and strategies, and delineating our KETS procurement strategies and KETS business partner development |
| |

Lean 6
Sigma (Best in Class) Implementation in KETS. |
| |
6 Sigma, complemented by Lean Manufacturing concepts, is a proven disciplined approach for improving measurable results for every type of |
| |
businesses and processes. The common theme in this approach is to identify and eliminate sources of waste and activities that do not add value, |
| |
in order to create flow with maximum productivity, capacity, and throughput. |
| |
KETS objective to implement Lean 6 Sigma company wide is to use the traditional Sigma tools along with Lean strategies to create a high |
| |
performance manufacturing environment that facilitates continuous pursuit of excellence on a sustainable basis. |
| |
The idea of deploying 6 Sigma was first coined by Henry Lau in December 2006, after winning the Maxa finalist award and brainstorming on the |
| |
next level of actions that can sustain KETS excellence ambitions. |
| |
On 6th of May 2007, KETS sent its senior executive to attend a 3-days 6 Sigma Champion seminar with the objective to evaluate the viability of |
| |
successful 6 Sigma deployment in KETS. Then, a strategy roadmap (include, training, awareness, organization, goals and objectives, etc) |
| |
formulated to establish 6 Sigma in KETS and approved by Yoshimura MD for full scale implementation. |
| |
In May 2007, a group of 3 staff (handpicked from various departments) was assigned to undergo a 56 hour ‘6 Sigma Green Belt’ training course |
| |
conducted by PSB. Their mission is to establish 6 Sigma organization, lead 6 Sigma projects for improvement, and sustain 6 Sigma activities. |
| |
On 5th of June 2007, the 6 Sigma was officially launched in KETS and kicked off by a full day in-house 6 Sigma awareness and appreciation course |
| |
for all management staff. 2 projects were planned to be implemented in the Supply Chain management and Bintan manufacturing environment. |
| |
Clear Targets and Goals were established. |

Achieving World Class Manufacturing Excellence, MAXA. |
| |
Maxa represents the highest global standard in manufacturing innovation and excellence. It is recognition of manufacturing excellence in Singapore |
| |
and the outstanding operations that are located in Singapore. The partners for this Maxa award are the Economic Development Board (EDB), |
| |
Mckinsey & Company and the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA). The award was the most prestigious one in Singapore and its criteria is measured |
| |
against 3 fronts: 1) Innovations in Manufacturing, 2) Operating systems – Manufacturing excellence, and 3) Sustainability. |
| |
KETS participated in this Maxa award in June 2006 and was awarded the top 6 Finalists in Nov 2007. |
| |
The process for the conduct of this award was very beneficial. Besides being recognized for its excellence, KETS has gained wide exposure to world |
| |
class practices. The in-depth diagnostics, conducted by the assessors to each short-listed candidate, has given insights on how World Class |
| |
companies strive to sustain their leadership in the industry, Industry’s best practices and World Class key performance benchmarks. |
| |
Not only must the company demonstrates strong operating system in terms of operational effectiveness, quality, safety, and costs, the company |
| |
must also demonstrate excellent Management infrastructure, Mindsets and Behaviors, Robust Financials, Strong Customer integration, and Capacity |
| |
for Continuous Innovation to sustain business. |
| |
KETS has made a strategic business roadmap in 1998 to achieve Leadership status in Manufacturing. Yoshimura MD was very committed and |
| |
determined to achieve this dream of becoming ‘Best in Manufacturing’ and thus decided to participate in the Maxa award. |
| |
Together with his highly motivated managers and staff, KETS has eventually being awarded the top 6 finalist. It is the only Japanese company in |
| |
Singapore to have won this prestigious award. The award was presented by the President of Singapore, His Excellency President Nathan, to our |
| |
MD, Mr. T Yoshimura. The success brings the greatest joy, unity and a fulfillment of a long visionary dream to KETS. Cheers! |
